One of the most frequently asked questions about Akoya pearls is "What is the best overtone for me?" While the body color of Akoya pearls are white, they do have cream, rose and silver overtones (hints of a secondary color seen with deeper reflected light). When making a choice in overtone it is helpful to know that Tiffany & Co. primarily sells pearls that have a silver overtone while Mikimoto & Co. primarily sell Akoya pearls with a pink overtone. • Women who have fairer skin tones prefer Akoya pearls with a rose overtone. The rose overtone of the pearls will compliment their skin undertones the best.
• Women that have darker skin tones, olive skin tones or women who enjoy a tan all year long, find that Akoya pearls with a silver overtone will compliment their skin color the best.
