First, it keeps the pearls from scraping against each other while you are wearing your pearl necklace or bracelet. This ensures that the surface of the pearls will be as beautiful and lustrous years from now as they are today.

Second, the double knotting keeps you from loosing all your pearls in the event that the string were to get caught on something and break. Each piece is inspected by hand before it is shipped.
